The opportunity

Whitley Fund for Nature is a UK-based charity backing exceptional wildlife conservationists across the Global South. As Head of Communications, you'll lead the organisation's entire external voice — from press and media strategy to digital channels, storytelling, and fundraising communications.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who knows how to build and protect a mission-led brand, and who can translate complex conservation work into compelling narratives for donors, media, and the public.

What you'll do
  • Lead and develop the communications function — currently a small, high-performing team of three
  • Own the editorial strategy across all owned, earned, and paid channels
  • Manage media relations and act as a senior spokesperson where required
  • Partner closely with the fundraising team to support major donor and trust communications
  • Oversee digital presence including website, social, and email
  • Represent WFN at sector events and within the conservation communications community
What we're looking for
  • Significant senior communications experience, ideally within the charity, NGO, or nature/environment sector
  • Proven track record of building or significantly developing a communications function
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — strong editor and confident presenter
  • Experience working closely with senior leadership and boards
  • Genuine commitment to conservation, sustainability, or the natural world
